Bean Bags For The Space Conscious

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

If you’ve just moved in to a new studio apartment and cannot decide whether you should start furnishing your new place with full-regalia seating furniture, you might want to get a few bean bags first while you decide. Full furniture sets are rather expensive and take up a lot of space, and you might not be ready to spend that much just yet. Bean bag chairs are, thus, a good option for those who are only starting out.

Compared to the usual furniture sets, bean bags do not take up much space in your home. They are also very mobile and fit easily in any room. You can bring bean bags anywhere. They do not need to be staples in just one room, like sofa sets. You cannot simply bring a sofa out to the porch if you want to, but with a bean bag this is not a problem. In short, it is a very versatile piece of furniture.

If you live in a rather cramped space, as most individuals who are just starting out do, bean bags are the perfect furniture. They are space-savvy and very cheap. Most bean bags retail for around $10 up, depending on the make and the design. But for the basic ones, getting a number for your apartment unit will not be a strain on the pocket.

Bean bags come in different shapes, sizes, and designs. Thus, you don’t have to be stuck with just one look for the room. You can mix and match bean bags according to your room’s theme. Why, you can even have yours customized!

See how much you can learn about Bean Bags when you take a little time to read a well-researched article? Don’t miss out on the rest of this great information.

In addition, since bean bag contents are replaceable, you can use just a few bean sets for a particular number of bags, and then save the extra bags for another occasion or as replacement furniture. You do not need to buy beans for all your bean bags if you won’t use all of them at the same time, anyway. Smart, isn’t it?

Aside from its versatility, a bean bag can also do wonders for your back. As opposed to the traditional chair or piece of furniture that has just one shape, which your body has to adjust to, bean bags tend to follow the shape of your body once you sink into it. You don’t have to keep changing your position every time you feel uncomfortable because the bean bag has already allowed you the best one.

Physical therapists even recommend bean bags for those with recurrent back aches because they provide comfortable seating. Pregnant women can even enjoy it without straining their backs.

Having said these, is there any downside to owning a bean bag, you might ask? Well, bean bags look a LOT different than traditional furniture. If you’re just starting out or if you don’t have much space, you can make bean bags work. However, as your move up, you might want to furnish your home with nice sofas eventually. While bean bag chairs are very practical, they look more like toys than actual furniture. But, hey, if you want to give your home that playful look, spread a number of colorful bean bag chairs all over.

As said earlier, bean bag chairs are versatile. They can serve as ‘meantime’ furniture, or they can be your home’s steady furnishing.

Their beanbags are clothed with washable covers to make it more convenient for you to clean them. Some of their beanbags are also made out of water-repellent microfiber linens. No matter how much water is spilled on them, there is absolutely no chance that the liquid will seep through. But if you really want to make sure that no water indeed will get in your precious beanbag, then just wipe the spilled liquid immediately.

If you think it has already gathered too much dust, or it is already dirty, you can wash it. But you must be careful in washing them because you might be the cause of its last day. You have to unzip it gently and then, of course, remove the cover. You must warm wash it separately using a regular household washing machine. Do not, under any circumstances, put in bleach if you want to keep your beanbag in good shape and color.

You need to prepare a large piece of plywood, if you do not have plywood, then you can economize and make use of a thick cardboard. But you must not be totally engrossed about the thickness of the cardboard. You can just use a half-inch cardboard and it is guaranteed to last for decades.

After you have cut the board three inches by three inches then you can start sanding its edges. Cut two more cardboard pieces into triangles that are supposed to be two and a half feet on each side. Nail an edge of the triangle to one of the backside edges of the original cardboard. The other triangle piece must be nailed to opposite side.

The triangle is the means by which the board can stand. This is why you must make sure that it is indeed sturdy to avoid any accidents.

The aforementioned procedure is the part wherein hard tools are needed, but after this, the rest of the procedure is as easy as pie. Always remember to just have every necessary tool and material prepared to avoid any tension and wastes.

How To Make A Bean Bag

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

So what is Bean Bags really all about? The following report includes some fascinating information about Bean Bags–info you can use, not just the old stuff they used to tell you.

Beanbags are indeed perfect for lounging in front of your precious television or curling up on your favorite seat in your most comfortable position reading a book. Just looking at a displayed beanbag makes you want to relax, what more when you actually have it for your own utility.

Upon hearing the term beanbag you probably think that it is filled with different kinds of beans. Actually, contrary to what most of you think, beanbags contain lots and lots of polystyrene pellets. That is why these special beanbags are as light as a feather despite their large size, and are extremely moldable. They just follow the contour of whatever is placed on them.

For it to be more durable, they consist of muslin inner lining that hold the pellets, and also an outer cover. The former is zippered up for the convenience of having the bag completely filled. The latter also comprises of a zipper, which is why it is so easy to remove for laundering or dry cleaning.

You need to make a pattern for the sidepieces first. You need to cut six sidepieces from your chosen fabric and also another six from the lining. For the top of your homemade beanbag, you have to cut one whole circle each from the fabric and its lining. And for the bottom, you must also make a pattern and cut two pieces that come from the lining.

After the cuting process is done, you must proceed to sewing. First, you have to make use of a tracing paper to be able to make a full-size pattern for the sides of the chair. Fold the paper in half and make a mark at the center of the fold. Mark an arc on the paper from the marked point to an approximate measurement and cut the marked line.

If you find yourself confused by what you’ve read to this point, don’t despair. Everything should be crystal clear by the time you finish.

Unfold the paper afterwards and mark a line from the fold. Cut the marked line and discard the tiniest piece of the circle because the remainder of the circle will be the pattern for the bottom of the beanbag. Cut the beanbag bottom from the fabric and its lining.

Pin the bottom pieces together along straight edges. Machine-baste the seam by using a regular stitch length. After that, stitch at the ends of the seam to be able to press the seam open.

Make sure that the zipper is at the center of your beanbag with its right side down over the seam allowances and its teeth on the seamline. Glue-baste it in place with a glue stick. Once you are done with that, stitch down every piece of the zipper tape from the zipper teeth.

Stitch the long edges of the sidepieces with the right sides together. However, you must leave the last seam unstitched. Press the seam allowances to one side with just one direction.

The rest you can do by yourself. Do not forget, this task is easy you probably do not need a manual for it anymore. All you need are the needed materials, patience and hardwork.

DIY Bean Bag Making

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Furnishing your new home or room with fun and interesting items does not have to be a strain on the pocket. If you don’t have much space to work with, much more a considerable budget, you can make your own bean bag furniture, instead. Bean bags are not just eye candy for your room, but they are also very fun and cheap to make.

Sure, you can purchase bean bags at a very low price, but nothing still beats the feeling of sitting on a piece of furniture that you yourself toiled over. Well, maybe, ‘toiled’ is not the right word — because making your own bean bag chairs is pretty easy. What’s more, you can experiment with different types of fabric. You can use leather, fur, plastic, or whatever comes to mind.

Here’s how to make your very own bean bag chair:

1. Lay the fabric on the patterns face down and secure with pins. You will need around 3.5 meters of fabric for a standard size bean bag. If you don’t have a pattern, you can simply search the Internet for free patterns. There are two basic ones — round and elongated. Smooth it out so its measurement is balanced.

2. Cut the fabric out with a sharp knife. You can use scissors but you have to make sure the pattern is securely aligned with the fabric so it doesn’t warp when you lift it. Allow about half an inch outside your pattern so you can stitch it properly. Double stitch the seams to strengthen it. [Remember, you're making something you will sit on, so it has to be secure.]

Truthfully, the only difference between you and Bean Bags experts is time. If you’ll invest a little more time in reading, you’ll be that much nearer to expert status when it comes to Bean Bags.

3. Sew the panels on the bottom circle and then sew the remaining edges together, keeping the top part open. After you’ve done this, that’s the only time you can start sewing the top circle. Make sure you leave enough space to stuff the bean bag with polystyrene balls, or little pellets.

4. Once you have finished stuffing, sew the opening tightly. Again, use the double stitch technique to make sure the pellets do not spill out accidentally once you use it. You can purchase these ‘beans’ at most department stores. It is important to sew tightly because the pellets are choking hazards and might harm your children.

Making your very own bean bag can cost you around $70. This is still a hefty price, yes, but at least you have the liberty of choosing your very own designs. Besides, the good bean bags for sale cost around $150 — and these are just the simpler ones. If you want really nice bean bags, you have to prepare to spend around $250! Now, how’s that for savings?

If you have basic sewing know-how, making your very own bean bag will not be a problem. You can even make it a family activity and involve your kids in the process. Remember, bean bag chairs do not just have to be round. You can make star shapes, flower shapes, or even chair shapes. You can even pattern it to look like your kids’ favorite cartoon character, or use psychedelic prints to make it more interesting.

Do-it-yourself bean bag making is not only a cheap way to add pizzazz to your room, but it is also a lot of fun. Call the kids and get creative now!

Why You Should Have Your Own Bean Bag Chair

Thursday, November 24th, 2011

You should be able to find several indispensable facts about Bean Bags in the following paragraphs. If there’s at least one fact you didn’t know before, imagine the difference it might make.

Beanbag chairs are unlike other beanbag furniture. They are oftenly manufactured with crepe fabrics that are put under two main categories, which are plain or satin weave. You can also choose one that is made of Canton crepe, which comprises of an even greater weight and has quite a number of ribs. You can also try the chiffon crepe because of its soft finish. The crepe de chine is also sellable due to its sheered crepe fabric that is usually limp. The crepon crepe is also sellable because of the fine ribs that have been embedded to its fabric. And lastly, the plisse crepe, due to its crinkled or puckered surface.

Almost everyone has his or her own cars. So if you want to feel more comfortable in your own vehicles, then have a beanbag chair put in your car. The covers of the beanbag chair have decorative chair ties so that you can tie a bow behind it just like you tie a ribbon.

Children will absolutely like to relax on beanbag chairs due to the small size and compact composition. Beanbag chairs do not need such a spacious room. After having known this piece of information, you would probably come to the conclusion that beanbag chairs will definitely fit better for your children. Beanbag chairs also have an extended seat, which is supposedly a leg rest and an armrest.

Knowledge can give you a real advantage. To make sure you’re fully informed about Bean Bags, keep reading.

The vibrance of the different colors of beanbag chairs seem to be immortal since it stays for an ultimately long period of time. Why is that? Its stay is long because the exuberance of the colors is locked into the fibers of the fabric. The creases that are obvious on the fabric are also produced because of constant embossing and boarding.

Contrary to public belief, beanbag chairs actually do not contain real beans. The truth is they contain low polymer content if not a high percentage of filler material that is thought to have less strength and durability. It has a varied cell structure that is so much different from that of other beanbag furniture. The different cell structure helps in adding support, comfort and resilience.

Placing one of your hands inside the seat while positioning the rickrack trimmed circles over the seat opening will make the task quicker and more possible, not just for you but for everyone. You should also not worry about being wounded by the zipper during this procedure because the zipper is in the inner bottom of the beanbag chair. It is done on purpose that way to impose the “childproofness” of the zipper.

Playing The Bean Bag Toss Game

Monday, November 21st, 2011

As you probably already know, kids love to have outdoor parties all the time. Outdoor parties give them the chance and the opportunity to run around and just play in every nook they could play in. Imagine that you are a child. Would you want to play in a room that has little space or play in a roomy area where you can be as free as you want and shout as loud as you can? You would take the latter, would you not?

You probably have an idea that common games can get pretty boring at times. Just as you would probably feel, kids feel the same way too. They feel boring and totally out of place if the games you launch are the games they usually play at other parties.

If you really want to keep your children busy and have their interest on the game, then you have to make sure that it is a fun game and is deemed to be unique. Try other kinds of game with a different set of mechanics and they are sure to love and adore it. They would probably still be playing it for themselves even if the game were already over.

A game that they are sure to love would be a beanbag toss game. It is definitely fun to try something new.

Hopefully the information presented so far has been applicable. You might also want to consider the following:

You just need to have a minimum of two players for the catching and tossing to actually mean anything. Of course, you would not want to be seen tossing a beanbag to yourself, right? You could do so if you want to be termed as crazy. But to those who care greatly of their image and identity, then you should just look for a partner to play with.

You are to face your chosen partner and toss the beanbag to him or her. Everytime your partner catches the beanbag you are both to step away from each other and begin the toss and catch process once again.

When you or your partner misses to catch even just once. Then you are both out of the game. The tension can get oftenly high, but it is mainly a peaceful game and is less nerve-racking. Do not worry about losing. Losing is always never important. The important part is that you took part in it and that you tried your best to work your heart out for that catch.

Beanbag toss games are definitely fun to play, especially with your closest friends.
